Riomaggiore: dove la luce si ferma

Riomaggiore: where the light lingers

Chiara Giovannini

There are places that don't reveal themselves immediately.

Riomaggiore is one of them.

Arriving from the path, or slowly descending through the houses, one gets the impression that everything is suspended. The colors are not just colors: they are traces, layers, signs of time resting one upon the other.

And then there's the sea.

It's not just a backdrop, but a constant presence. It reflects, absorbs, gives back. It changes throughout the day, but it's in the evening that something different happens.

The light lingers longer.

It glides over the facades, breaks on the waves, slips into the most hidden corners. It is a light that is not in a hurry, that seems to want to stay a moment longer, as if it knows something that is not immediately visible.

Walking without a precise destination, one begins to notice small details: a half-open window, a darker shadow than usual, a reflection that doesn't perfectly match its surroundings.

These are details that don't demand attention, but that remain.

Perhaps this is why some places become stories.

Not because someone invented them, but because there is already a space to welcome them.

Riomaggiore is one of those places.

A place where looking is not enough.

You have to stop.
Let the place tell its story.

The rest, sometimes, comes later.

And not always in the same way for everyone.

This is the place where the first letter of the WanderSketch Club originates.
The rest, including the reason why there is a video on how to make a paper moon, is kept in the envelope.
